Optimizing SEO for a Photograph Biz inspires a complete reinvention (and it’s amazing!)

Barefoot Photography was Ryley's Old Brand and Website that did not align with her ideal client OR herselfIris and Urchin Life Photography by Ryley Mayoras was designed by Molly Hicks, Brand Strategist and Designer and was a complete rebrand and name change hosted on ShowIt

Your website is more than just a means to say, “Hey, look at me I run a business!” It’s a marketing tool that helps people find you, and typically it’s one of the first things people look for. So many business owners understand the importance of SEO, they just don’t typically understand HOW to make that a reality. A lot of times optimizing for SEO means adding some Alt text or extra copy, but sometimes it can mean a WHOLE lot more. And that was they case for this one-time project.

Miami Based Photographer (and recently relocated) Ryley Mayoras reached out to me looking for a way to make her business stand out from the rest of the “flooded” with photographers Miami market. She didn’t want to work with just any person, she wanted to work with people who were loving life and are weren’t afraid to show off their own unique way of doing things. So she wanted to optimize her website’s SEO so that people could find her and know exactly what she was all about!

Out with the old and in with the all eff-ing new!

When I first looked at Ryley’s old site, I got a certain perception of who I thought Ryley would be and the type of photography she would provide. But after our discovery call I realized this wasn’t just a zhuzh up of a solid brand. The old branding Ryley was using just didn’t resonate with her personality OR the type of high-quality, energy filled, fun loving spirit that was actually at the heart of Ryley’s business. We needed to establish a whole new vibe for Ryley and that meant in addition to new copy, new site, and a whole new visual aesthetic, we needed to come up with a whole new name!

There’s more that meets the eye in a business name.

The name of a business is more than just a name. It is a quick snapshot of who you are and what you stand for. And while considering names for Ryley’s photography business she new one things was for sure. It wasn’t going to be her name, because that’s what everyone was doing and she wanted to set herself apart. One of the most amazing things that we settled on was that her brand encompassed more than just people, but also Ryley’s love of animals. I mean she does a have a background in Marine Biology! And so Iris and Urchin Life Photography was born! Check out where we landed with her final logo design.

Let me skip to the good part...
